The truth is that the iphone is still a very buggy gadget and poorly customizable. If you try to find people making the best of their iphones is usually the apple fans, that don't bother admitting the obvious when they talk about an iphone. It's hard to make it feel or behave different than an apple device.

The documentation for the notifications doesn't actually mention that you need to set the batteryMonitoringEnabled property to YES (it's stated in the documentation for the property instead), so it's not entirely obvious that you need to set the property.

Thanks, this was helpfu! I was having trouble until I looked at your code and realized you have to call

[UIDevice currentDevice].batteryMonitoringEnabled = YES;

in order for the notifications to be sent.
